Maine’s Connection to the Hit Movie ‘It Ends With Us’
Imagine my surprise when I saw Maine as I started watching 'It Ends With Us'.
I'm usually not one to watch a movie that looks like a Lifetime take on domestic violence. But I had read that 'It Ends With Us' is a controversial movie based on the book by Colleen Hoover. Plus, it was one of Netflix's top 10 'most watched', so I decided to give it a try.
Wait...MAINE is the setting for this movie?
Well, kind of. I'm not ruining anything by telling you the concept is that Lily Bloom (yes, her character name) comes back home to Maine for her dad's funeral. She heads to Plethora, Maine. That stopped me in my tracks as I read about Plethora. On the very big sign welcoming you to town, it says in part,
Nestled in the heart of Maine, Plethora has a rich and vibrant history that spans centuries. Founded in the early 1830s by adventurous female settlers Stephanie Cohen, Erica Ramirez, and Brenda Perez, the town originally served as a trading post for lumberjacks.

Where is Plethora, Maine?
In the imagination of author Colleen Hoover. I had never heard of it but figured it was way up north. Nope. In fact, the scenes in 'Maine' were shot in New Jersey. Oh boy. There was one scene at the funeral where I thought I heard the attempt at a Maine accent, but that was it. This is New Jersey.
I won't spoil the movie, which has been out since the summer, but I was super excited about Maine and then super disappointed. (I give the movie 2 1/2 stars)
