For a few months each year, the two most prominent water parks in Maine are busy with enthusiastic visitors looking to slide, splash, and swim to their heart's content. But those trips to the water park can be fleeting, as Maine's summers are often too short and sometimes too chilly.

According to Saco Bay News, a new proposal from a developer could change the landscape of water park fun in southern Maine. And that could happen sooner than you may think.

The proposed project would bring a brand new Town Suites Hotel to Saco, Maine, next to an existing Ramada Inn. The hotel would include a standalone restaurant as well as 139 rooms, some of which would be available for extended stay guests. It would be located right off the brand new Maine Turnpike exit being constructed.

But a brand new hotel in a city that sees plenty of summer tourism isn't exactly a groundbreaking concept. It's what is included in the hotel proposal that has piqued the interest of many.

The development would also include Maine's first indoor water park, tentatively called the Saco Surf N' Slide. Specific attractions weren't mentioned within the Saco Bay News article, but given the water park name, one can reasonably assume a handful of attractions like traditional water slides and tube-specific adventures.

The one potential downside for water park enthusiasts may be that the indoor water park would be primarily meant for hotel guests. The park would be open to the general public if it doesn't reach capacity.

If the proposal is accepted, the Town Suites Hotel would be built first, followed by Maine's first indoor water park. The initial plans call for it to be open sometime in 2025.
