I-95 Hampton, New Hampshire, Tolls Fast Lanes Closing for 3 Months
New Hampshire Drivers Be Aware
The NH Department of Transportation has closed the North and Southbound ORT lanes, also known as Open Road Toll lanes on I-95 in Hampton, according to dotnh.gov.
They are doing a full system replacement of all the equipment that was installed in 2010.
The work is expected to take three months. The anticipated open date is early January 2025.
Traffic will have to go through the cash lanes or E-Z Pass lanes within the barrier.
If you have to travel that road, make sure you slow down. You can also check newengland511.org for traffic alerts.
Remember when we had to actually pay CASH when we went through a toll? Back in those days, you could drive through without any money and pray you didn't get caught. Many times we had to fish through the car and look for .50 cents for the toll.
I remember the feeling of accomplishment when I was able to scrape up the money from underneath the floor mats. What a day it was when we found those two quarters right next to the dried up McDonald's french fries.
Sell New Hampshire Tokens on Ebay
Remember the tokens that we could buy from the toll taker? They were cheaper than paying the full price of the toll. People are now selling them on Ebay for $5.99. Five dollars and 99 cents. What the heck?!
When we went through the toll, you would throw the tokens in the basket and be on your way. I remember missing the basket a few times, but you couldn't back up to retrieve the coin, you just had to drive on through and the red light would come on and a wicked loud buzzer sounded.
Now we have cameras watching our every move and they need to make them a little better.
