Is That Cutie an Escaped Penguin Swimming in the Boston Harbor? (Video)
If it walks like a penguin and talks like a penguin, then it must be a penguin, right? Well, except we're only seeing it swim right now, but it sure looks like one of those absolutely adorable animals that you can't help but smile when you see.
The person who shared this video on the @onlyinbos Instagram wanted to know if they were dreaming, or if they're actually witnessing a penguin enjoying a sunny, crisp January day swimming in the Boston Harbor.
What do you think?
Comments on the Instagram post went wild, wondering if it was indeed a penguin that possibly escaped from the New England Aquarium.
Many were worried, but figured that if it was an escapee, the New England Aquarium is sure to get to him or her. But others had it narrowed down to two types of birds: a dovekie or razerbill.
A dovekie is a very small seabird with a chunky body, a cute, short tail and neck, and a small, stubby bill. The wings are short and narrow as well, according to the All About Birds website.
Meanwhile, a razorbill is also in the chunky family, but is more of a thickset seabird with narrow wings and a long tail with a short neck on a large head. They're also seabirds with a unique razor-like bill, according to All About Birds.
Razorbills are totally at home in the chilly northern Atlantic Ocean coastlines. However, they usually don't venture further than Maine, while dovekies tend to stay in the Arctic. But when it's cold, these birds are happy to make New England waters home.
