Kennebunk’s Famous Wedding Cake House is in ‘Ruins’ According to Recent Visitors
The famous Wedding Cake House in Kennebunkport, Maine is one of the state's most photographed homes. It's impressive Federal style with Carpenter Gothic trim truly gives the home a frosted look, just like your dream wedding cake. Unfortunately, some think this gem of a house is facing neglect and disrepair in recent years.
A blog post by popular content machine Only In Your State showcased one of the Wedding Cake House, saying "There's no other house in the world like this one in Maine." Only In Maine, a state-specific Facebook page for Only In Your State, shared the post on June 7th. Most of the comments cried out for the repair of this once magnificent structure.
Instagram photos posted between October 2016 through last month show peeling paint on trim work and the fence in front of the property. It is difficult to keep paint looking fresh year after year, especially after tough Maine winters, but many visitors expected the historic home to experience better upkeep.
The house is in a sad state. The beautiful work is falling apart, sagging and will soon fall down. Not worth driving by. I didn't take pictures it was in such a sad state.
This iconic building which is located on Historic Summer Street in Kennebunk has been allowed to deteriorate badly. The building and the fantastic carved wood fenestration need immediate attention before the whole thing is lost.
