Call it a combination of things but one of the longest-running taxi companies in Maine has officially gone out of business. City Cab Company, which operates in Lewiston, announced on Facebook Thursday morning that they were closing down for good after more than 90 years in business.

All cab companies across America have been feeling the sting of the surge in popularity from ride-share services. City Cab, like many others with notable reputations and history, had managed to navigate those rough seas over the past few years. But the coronavirus pandemic was a different beast to battle, and with shelter-at-home orders in place and less people traveling anywhere, the cab company decided this was the time to fold up shop.

The closure of City Cab will leave Lewiston/Auburn residents with few options outside of Uber, Lyft or public transportation to get around town without a vehicle.
