Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation (Maine Adaptive) is having their 31st annual Ski-A-Thon!  This annual fundraiser traditionally brings in over 60% of their budget. I will be there hosting the event and hope you can get a team together!

Maine Adaptive is the most amazing organization! It was founded in 1982 by Dr. Omar (Chip) Crothers, a Portland-based orthopedic surgeon and Leslie Otten, founder of American Skiing Company. Dr. Crothers was amazed to see a young patient of his with cerebral palsy skiing easily on the slopes at Sunday River. He spoke to Mr. Otten at Sunday River and together they created Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation, the first adaptive ski organization in Maine for people with physical disabilities.

In 1982 Maine Adaptive was housed at Sunday River’s South Ridge Lodge with 8 participants, 2 volunteers and one part-time staff member. Today, Maine Adaptive has its own 4300 square foot slope side facility at Sunday River.

They also have branched out to provide year round activities - but the Ski-A-Thon remains the biggest fundraiser.

All services for participants are free. So you can see why this is so important!

Please get a team together for Saturday March 19th for a great day of food, skiing and community. I love participating in this event. It makes me feel grateful for the amazing work the volunteers do and big kudos to Sunday River for their continued support!
