22nd Annual Scrabble Fest to Help Literacy in Androscoggin County, Maine
Literacy Volunteers-Androscoggin (LV-A) is holding its annual Scrabble Fest in Auburn, and you're invited!
The original Words With Friends is Scrabble, and for the 22nd year, it's time to put your Scrabble skills to the test for a great cause. All money raised helps the Literacy Volunteers-Androscoggin (LV-A).
LVA was formed in 1974 by a group of retired teachers. That makes this their 50th year! Over the years, they have helped hundreds of their neighbors achieve their life goals, including learning to read and write, then moving on to college and careers. LVA provides free one-on-one tutoring and other educational services to help adults and families in Androscoggin County acquire the basic reading, writing, math, and life skills they need to enhance their lives and achieve their personal goals. You can help by playing Scrabble!
Scrabble Fest is their biggest fundraiser, and proceeds are used to support the efforts to improve literacy skills in our community. Last year, LVA had 62 volunteers and served 63 students. Overall, volunteers gave 3382 hours – 1475 for instruction, 1235 for lesson prep, and 672 for board work, IT, Scrabble Fest, training, mentoring, and other projects – for a value of $101,460 to the community.
