Maine Celtic Celebration Canceled Amid Concerns Of Rising Covid Cases

The popular Maine Celtic Festival, which has taken place in Belfast for many years, is canceling this year's scheduled event, sighting concerns in the rising number of Covid cases across the state.

They took to their Facebook page this week to let patrons know that the event, which had been scheduled to take place Saturday, September 18, would no longer be happening.

"We all had worked so hard towards having a live show, but the increased incidence of Covid-19 in Waldo County and the dim prospect that it is likely to get worse over the next couple of months made us come to a unanimous decision to cancel the Celebration this year."

The announcement went on to explain that many of the performers, scheduled to appear during the celebration, would send in videos of their performances that the organizers would share via the Facebook page.

Most of the comments validated the organizers' decision to hold off for this year, with people sending their support and well wishes for next year.

As of right now, Maine Highland Games and Scottish Festival, a similar event that usually takes place in Brunswick, will still go on as scheduled this coming weekend. According to their Facebook page, the plan is to hold festivities on Saturday, August 21 at Thomas Point Beach.
