Maine Forest Ranger Returns to Bear Den To Check on Mom and Cub
A Maine Forest Ranger discovered a black bear den last fall and returned last week with biologists to check in on the mom and her cub.
Ranger Erik Ahlquist returned to the den in Carthage with the biologists from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to improve the bedding in the den and weigh the mother and cub.
When they were done, they rubbed a scent on the cub to erase the smell of humans and left mom and baby to sleep for the rest of the winter knowing they are well taken care of.
