Maine Restaurant Offering Free Food to Federal Workers During Shutdown
Lazarri, a restaurant on Congress Street in Portland, is offering free pizza to federal workers during the government shutdown.
Federal employees just missed their first paycheck during the shutdown this past Friday, and WGME-13 is reporting that Lazarri in Portland is trying to make it just a little bit easier on people without pay.
Even though many federal workers will get paid retroactively to the beginning of the shutdown, that still doesn't help them right now. A study that came out this week points to the sad reality that almost 80% of Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck, and federal employees might miss rent, mortgage, and childcare payments, along with other expenses as long as they aren't paid.
