Maine vs Liberty Bell Moving & Storage in Windham.

This lawsuit was recently filed and it's pretty remarkable the claims against Liberty Bell. According to Maine Biz, Liberty Bell Moving & Storage in Windham has customers sign a contract that breaks consumer protection laws. According to the Maine Attorney General, in these contracts, if you say anything less than flattering about Liberty Bell, you are threatened with 'litigation, damages, and penalties that lack a factual or legal basis.'

Maine's lawsuit also says that Liberty Bell says any negative review, even if it's true, is considered defamation. Even threatening to make you pay $2,500 in damages for every day a bad review is online publicly! This comes in a message from an email address attorney@libertymoving.com and the AG's office couldn't find a legitimate lawyer attached to that address.

The lawsuit goes on by accusing Liberty Bell of breaking federal and state rules, and falsely advertising on their website that they welcome honest reviews. These practices, have been going on for years and are still happening...allegedly. Maine Biz reached out to Liberty Bell, but an unidentified person would not comment on the record.

There are a dozen locations throughout New England. If you go to the Liberty Bell website, there are reviews. Some are not positive. WARNING: There is some spicy language.

But the positive reviews are plentiful.

Buyer beware comes to mind. Whoever you use for something so important, look over the contract carefully. I know they are long with little font, but you may be saving yourself a lawsuit down the road.
