Balloon artists, including one from Maine, came together in Rochester, New York to build a five story balloon sculpture titled 'Jack and the Giant Balloon Beanstalk.' Lanna Lee Maheux is a long time balloon sculptor and artist from Westbrook who joined in on the task of building a five story bean stalk complete with garden at the base and a giant in his castle at the top. I was a guest once on her podcast 'Lounging with Lanna Lee.'

Why build a five story balloon beanstalk? According to Larry Moss and Kelly Cheatle who came up with the idea for the public art, "If someone says they’re going to build a five-story beanstalk-castle extravaganza entirely out of balloons, do you really need a reason?"

It took 50,000 balloons to build and was funded successfully through Kickstarter. It's currently on display at The Sibley Building in Rochester, New York, but if you go visit I'd keep any sharp objects away from the beanstalk.
