UPDATED: Scarborough Drowning Victim Identified
A 45-year-old man drowned Sunday afternoon when he tried to swim to an island in the middle of a lake at Wassamki Springs Campground in Scarborough, according to WMTW.
On Monday afternoon, WMTW reported that police identified the man as Giot Nguyen, 45, of Portland.
The Portland television news station reported the drowning victim whose identity had not been revealed as of Sunday night went underwater around 2:30 p.m. Family members and witnesses pulled the man's body to shore on the island and administered CPR before Gorham and Scarborough EMTs also applied CPR, but they could not resuscitate the man. WMTW also reported that Gorham Police were continuing to investigate the incident.
