With many school districts across the state closing for several weeks in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, one local business is helping out students in their community with a necessity.

Melby's Market and Eatery in North Waterford is offering one free lunch a day for school kids in the area while the Oxford Hills School District has cancelled classes.

Many students rely on school lunch as part of their meals and it can be tough sometimes for working parents to suddenly have to fill that void. Melby's is offering students choice of ham and cheese, turkey and cheese, peanut butter and jelly or veggie sandwiches on their very on bread baked in the store. Thrown in their hand cut fries or chips along with a cookie for desert, and that will fill the need of many students in the area that is missing for now.

The community has supported them, they wanted to give back and the response has been overwhelming since the announcement on Facebook.

If students would like a bag lunch and live in the North Waterford area, just stop by Melby's once each day to get a free bag lunch until March 27.
