Miley Cyrus’ Bittersweet Breakup Single ‘Slide Away’ Seems to Reference Liam Hemsworth Split
Miley Cyrus surprised fans when she released a new single at midnight (August 16).
"Slide Away," an ambient, atmospheric pop track, finds the artist singing about "letting go" and moving on from a situation — and a lover — she no longer feels connected with.
The bittersweet track also seems to reference Cyrus' recent split from husband Liam Hemsworth, who she wed in December 2018 after a decade of on-again, off-again dating and a 6-year engagement.
The song's bridge also appears to nod to the former couple's meet-cute on the set of their 2010 film The Last Song, when Cyrus was roughly 17 years old:
Move on, we're not seventeen
I'm not who I used to be
You say that everything changed
You're right, we're grown now
