Cats Are Mysteriously Disappearing in a Bangor, Maine Neighborhood
Anyone who has a cat knows that they can go missing if they get outdoors. When I was a kid we had an outdoor cat that was gone for 9 months before deciding to come home. Cats do what they want and no human is going to stop them.
We were lucky our cat came back, but there's a neighborhood in Bangor that has had 16 cats go missing since June and it's got residents worried.
According to WMTW 8, a small section of the Bangor neighborhood of Fairmount has had cats go missing since June and no one seems to know why. Residents are suspicious that there could be a predator in the area like a coyote or owl, but the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife doesn't think it was an animal.
Some residents think that someone could be behind the disappearances. A catnapper perhaps? It is bizarre that so many cats have gone missing over the past three months. Hopefully, they'll be found.
Our outdoor cat managed to survive on her own back in the 80s, but today experts recommend that you keep your cat indoors.
The website Chipolo has 5 things you can do to prevent your cat from getting lost.
- Get your cat a Bluetooth or GPS tracker. You'll always know where it is.
- Secure your cat's surroundings to make it difficult for them to escape
- Train your cat to come when called. (Good luck)
- Implant them with a microchip so they can be identified if lost
- Add an ID tag to their collar.
