New Old Port Hotel Will Include Portland’s First Indoor/Outdoor Rooftop Bar

If you didn't think there was room for another hotel in Portland's Old Port, think again. According to the Bangor Daily News, a new Canopy by Hilton hotel will be built at the corner of Center Street and Commercial Street and should be open by the spring of 2021.

One of the intriguing aspects of this new hotel will be the inclusion of an indoor/outdoor rooftop bar. Portland already has a fair share of decks and rooftop bars to enjoy, but this will be Portland's first mixed-use rooftop bar. Some hotels in Boston have found big business in repurposing their rooftop bars in the winter.

According to MaineBiz, the 6-story hotel will be similar in style to Portland's popular Press Hotel. The plan is to deliver Portland a boutique-style, lifestyle-forward hotel that speaks to a chic type of tourist visiting the Old Port.

The new Canopy hotel will include a first floor restaurant in the style of many others in the Old Port. Additionally, there will likely be a parking garage to suit the hotel but also supplant the surface parking lot that currently sits at the corner of Center and Commercial streets.
