I am addicted to Gifford's ice cream. It's hard for me to resist it when pushing my shopping cart down the freezer aisle at the grocery store and I see a big old quart of Gifford's Peanut Butter Pie. This is hands down the best ice cream ever created.

It's always the first to run out of stock of all the Gifford flavors, but today when I was pushing my cart down the freezer aisle once again, the shelves were almost completely empty.

Just three containers of Gifford's Cannoli ice cream were all that remained of the variety of flavors usually here. I know Gifford's Ice Cream is popular, but this seemed unusual, and then I remembered what was reported in the news recently.

On the morning of February 2, a fire broke out in the processing room of Gifford's plant in Skowhegan. Luckily firefighters were able to knock it down quickly and there were no injuries.

However, the fire was significant enough to cause an amount of damage that, for the time being, has caused Gifford's to be unable to make their famous ice cream. The fire was later ruled as an accident by the Fire Marshall's Office.

An announcement was made in a post on Gifford's Facebook page on February 21, saying they are pausing production for the time being until the necessary repairs are made:

"The outpouring of support from you all, our wonderful Gifford’s customers, partners, and local community members, has been incredible. As you can imagine, it’s been an emotional time for our family, but our entire team has pulled together, and we are happy to share that our full staff will remain on board. We’re working diligently to get back up and running as soon as possible. Thank you again for your support and patience. We look forward to coming back stronger than ever and will keep you updated as we move forward."

So be patient. Before you know it, those shelves will be stocked once again with your favorite Gifford's Ice Cream flavor. Is anyone else excited for the return of Peanut Butter Pie?
