One Of The Best Diners In America Is Right Here In Maine
Considering the entire State of Maine is one of America's premiere tourist destinations, it should not be much of a surprise that the state is loaded with some outstanding restaurants. And, in recent years, the number of amazing restaurants has continued to grow.
We've got everything from seafood restaurants (obviously), to fine dining establishments, restaurants that serve Latin cuisine, to diners. Speaking of diners...
According to the Tasting Table, one of the best diners in America is right here in Maine.
The Maine Diner
The Maine Diner has been serving locals and visitors for decades! Close to 80 years! Actually, as the story goes, it was intended to be a LOCALS ONLY place. The original owner was reportedly not a fan of tourists, so he only opened in the winter.
The article goes on to say:
Showcasing the bounty of Maine's cold coastal waters, Maine Diner is famous for its inspired seafood dishes. The Myles Henry Downeast Benedict is two cod cakes topped with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. Hot and cold lobster rolls are served all year 'round, while fried clams and clam strips are a favorite appetizer. The seafood chowder has won numerous awards over the years. Still, the diner's lobster pie is what draws the crowds. Huge chunks of lobster are topped with cracker crumbs, butter, and lemon, then baked.
You can find The Maine Diner on Post Road in Wells.
Elsewhere In New England
There are several other New England diners on the Tasting Table list. These include the Blue Benn in Bennington, Vermont, the Modern Diner in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and the Phoenicia Diner in New York's Catskills.
