Out-of-Staters Are Taking Notice of the Infamous Walmart Pole in Auburn, Maine
Okay, it's time for this writer to give her two cents on this conundrum.
For months now, articles have come to our attention on a semi-regular basis, all centering around one topic: a small yellow pole in the parking lot of an Auburn, Maine, Walmart.
For fellow New Hampshire locals who don't know what we're talking about, long story short, drivers keep bumping into this pole. A lot. It's been hit so often, in fact, that it's gotten this Granite Stater invested, despite having never been to Auburn and knowing absolutely nothing about that part of Maine.
Why do so many people keep hitting. That. Dang. Pole?
This week, a coworker wrote about the most recent accident in which the pole was hit. Did it involve a simple tap or scrape? Nope. The car managed to hit the pole in such a way that the whole vehicle was flipped on its side. How?
Anyway, this writer isn't here to shame any specific person who has hit the pole, but rather emphasize her confusion as to how nothing is changing. Perhaps it's easier said than done, but couldn't the pole be removed? Or, better yet, maybe people could pay more attention to their surroundings when behind the wheel, especially when word is getting out about the constant accidents that have happened in that dang Walmart parking lot? When out-of-staters are taking notice, you've got a problem on your hands.
Look, we don't have all the answers. But we do know one thing: that pole is cursed.
Here's a look back on the pole's reign of terror.
