Oxford Fire Chief Dies While Attending Funeral of Captain Barnes

More sadness at the funeral of fallen Fire Captain Joel Barnes on Saturday as the Captain of the Oxford Fire department was rushed to the hospital while attending the service and later died.

The service was attended by firefighters from all the over the state and the country, including Oxford Fire Chief Gary Sacco. At some point, Sacco developed some sort of medical issue and was rushed to Maine Medical Center where he later died.

Chief Sacco had been with Oxford Fire and Rescue for 2 years after retiring from the New Gloucester Fire Department. He was 63.

Oxford Fire and Rescue posted on their Facebook page about the passing of Chief Sacco and will announce funeral when they have been arranged.
