I had never been to San Diego, and it was the best!

Everything from the weather, the food, and the plants is 100% different than good ol' Portland, Maine. Went to the San Diego Safari Park. It's different from the famous zoo, but it was closer and my family had already been to the zoo. It was great! I saw up close and personal everything from a camel to kangaroos! And this weirdo bird, the frogmouth bird.

Or my favorite...giraffes. Sadly, they are becoming extinct.

If you head out to San Diego or anywhere on the west coast, be prepared to travel all day. And make sure all your electronics are charged up if you leave from the Portland Jetport. Because well....

Can't wait PWM.

A couple of things amazed me. The weather was definitely one of those things. It was 'cool' by San Diego standards, but for me...it was perfect in the 60's. The beaches were SO huge and it was just gorgeous.

And being Southern California, citrus grows everywhere. Where my sister and her husband live, there were grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange and clementine trees! So yes, we picked it all!

The food is so influenced by being so close to the Mexican border (it's 15 miles away from downtown San Diego!). I loved it, but was also scared at some of the things in the grocery store...

Apparently that's a fruit berry (its' what I call anyone named Nancy). And cactus?

The tender cactus is so much better than the tough and chewy cactus. And no, I did not try either of these things.

I loved seeing my sis, her new hubby and I really really liked San Diego.
