There’s a Remote Machiasport, Maine, Beach Covered in Multi-Colored Rocks That ‘Sing’

Have you ever heard of the Maine beach that is said to "sing"?

Nestled along the rugged coastline is the enchanting Jasper Beach, a hidden gem known for its tranquil beauty and unique natural phenomenon.

One of the most extraordinary features of this calming Machiasport location is the melodious sound emitted by its rocks as waves wash over them.

It's one of the most prominent things people mention about the place when they visit.

If you couldn't tell by the videos, this is not a sandy beach with Baywatch lifeguards. Instead, smooth stones of various shapes, sizes and colors cover the area.

According to a Maine Geological Survey from the Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry in 2000, the half-a-mile beach gets its name from the jasper stone. And yes, you probably will notice the red stones found on the beach, but they aren't truly jasper.

To get extra specific, if you're into that kind of thing, "jasper is a form of silica that is enriched in iron, whereas the red stone on Jasper Beach is a fine-grained volcanic rock called rhyolite," according to the report.
