Several different police departments, including Lewiston and Auburn, are working in unison with the Maine State Police to set up multiple different OUI checkpoints through the rest of August in hopes of curbing impaired driving.

According to the Sun-Journal, the checkpoints, which will exist in cities and towns throughout Androscoggin County at random locations, are part of an initiative put forth by the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety as well as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

All participating police departments will continue the initiative through August 31st.
