Are You Brave Enough? One of the Most Haunted Airbnbs in the US Is in Massachusetts
Halloween is coming up, so if you're looking for a unique stay with a little extra spooky for the season you've got some options.
Forget luxury amenities like an indoor pool or on-site bowling. Bring on the potential for seeing a ghost (or ghosts).
Timeout.com put together a list of the 11 most haunted Airbnbs in the United States, and one cute and unassuming yellow house in Salem, Massachusetts, was on it.
Honestly, if you stumbled across this Airbnb without knowing the ghost background, you'd be forgiven if your first thought was simply, "How adorable."
And frankly, the fact that the Airbnb listing highlights how it's within walking distance to a bunch of the Salem attractions, has 7 bedrooms and a beautiful garden out back makes it pretty enticing on its own.
That's not to mention that the place is an antique home built in 1838 (with some modern amenities and updates as well), so you're getting a spot rich with nearly 200 years of history.
But it's under the section titled "Other Things to Note" that should really stand out to you.
"Do not expect it to look or feel like a hotel when you arrive. The stairs will creak, the windows will rattle when it's windy, and you may experience paranormal activity in the house during your stay."
Yup, it said you may experience paranormal activity.
If you take a look at the reviews, which the place has an awesome 4.89 out of 5, you'll notice some people's stays include mentions of seeing ghosts.
One woman who stayed in October 2023 and gave the place five stars said: "This house is definitely haunted. My group experienced A LOT of activity. 3 of us saw ghosts. 2 of us the same ghost. A young woman with dark hair. The other ghost was in the mirror. I was told by the ghosts to “shhh” twice."
Another visitor mentioned the third floor felt spooky and even came across a ghost cat during the stay.
Someone who vacationed for a birthday trip in January 2024 said that "several people did hear footsteps on the third floor but no one was up there that particular night."
But honestly, overall when you scroll through the reviews, the response is overwhelmingly positive toward the host, the stay, the home itself, and the general experience. If anything, the potential for paranormal activity is just an added spooky bonus.
So whether you're hoping for a haunted stay or just a great Airbnb trip, it sounds like this Salem, Massachusetts, spot should be on your radar.
