This is so frikken awesome and also so frikken bad. I just know once Sød (translating to sweet in Danish) opens their little candy doors it's all over for our diets. The good part?

There has never been a candy store in Portland that takes after Danish roots so because of that alone I think it's really going to flourish in this community.

Sticky Sweet Maine

Sticky Sweet was the gluten, dairy free and plant based ice cream shop that previously occupied the space before they permanently closed their doors on Cumberland Ave.

Locals raved about this place because it was a 1 of 1 even serving cashew & plant based ice cream. Back in 2022 they even won Best Ice cream Shop in the 207 making their footsteps a bit harder to follow in.

Sod Cumberland Ave Portland, Maine

Then here comes Sød, a candy shop ready to try that challenge by selling Swedish candy instead. What makes them so confident that they'll be able to set themselves apart from other candy shops in the area?

According to portlandoldport, here's what the new owner Nikoline, who will be running the shop with her Swedish family had to say:

"Sød will offer a carefully curated selection of Scandinavian sweets, allowing customers to hand-pick their favorites and purchase them by weight. The shop embraces the Danish tradition of “Fredagsslik” (Friday candy), a beloved custom where families unwind at the end of the week with an assortment of sweets".

Yay culture! We could see a potential opening by the end of March or April 2025.
