Search For WCSH 6 Meteorologist Tom Johnston Ends in Tragedy
After being reported as missing since Monday evening, the search for WCSH 6 Meteorologist Tom Johnston has ended in tragedy.
According to the Auburn Police Department, Johnston's body was found yesterday. Police have ruled out any foul play and the investigation is now focusing on an apparent suicide.
After hosting an event at Sunday River over the weekend, Tom had not shown up at home or work on Monday and was reported as a missing person. Old Orchard Beach Police began an investigation which concluded last night in Auburn.
Tom began working for WCSH 6 in 2014 and eventually took Joe Cupo's place on the evening newscasts after his retirement. He was affectionately called TJ Thunder by his co-workers and viewers on social media, the screen name he used on Twitter.
Tom was 46. Our hearts go out to his family and our friends at WCSH.
