Small Anti-Mask Protest at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School

It was mostly three moms who don't believe kids should have to wear masks at school.

The Sun Journal reported that the small protest Monday morning was led by Karley Estes of Paris, who has a son that goes to OHCHS, but she won't send him if he has to wear a mask. She knows that there could be pushback, but she also knows there are others who feel the same say she does.

She will homeschool if she has to, but other parents don't have that choice. Some honked in support, and others may have shown their disapproval with a finger. The Sun Journal says that one man actually stopped and showed the protestors a picture on his phone of his dog with a mask on.

The 'protest' was mostly three moms with signs. They read:

• I (drawn heart)HUMANITY - BORN TO BE FREE
• MASKS DON'T MAKE SENSE
• FREEDOM IS THE AIR WE CAN NOT DO WITHOUT - UNTIL WE ARE DEPRIVED OF IT. WE FEEL THAT WE ARE DYING.

The message from these moms is clear. They don't feel the risk is with school children, that they aren't at risk. It's the elderly and those with underlying conditions. They don't think that a blanket mask policy is the right thing to do. And yes, they feel they are losing their freedom.

It's the beginning of the school year - back to school for some. The next few weeks will definitely let us know how the fall and winter will be for all of us.
