Take A Tour Of the Fantastic New South Portland Fire Station
After 646 days of being closed, a brand spanking new Cash Corner Fire Station is open in South Portland. It's on the site of the old station and it is a beauty! It didn't take long for our heroes to kick the new station into gear. By 8 am today, they had already answered two emergency calls. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held yesterday.
The old station on Cash Corner was built in 1970. There was one little problem with this building. It had no ventilation! So, you guessed it; things got moldy. The renovation would have cost as much as a new building, so the building was demolished last February, and new construction began. The new station has great ventilation and all the bells and whistles these heroes deserve!
This new building will have two floors. There is living space and classroom space for training. During construction, the Cash Corner crew worked out of the Western Avenue station.
Fun Fact-The South Portland Fire Department gets over 4500 calls a year.
