Ready for another monthly round-up of restaurant openings in Maine?

August 2026 brought a slew of new spots to check out, including African, Somali, and Indian cuisine, plus classic comfort food, a New York-style bagel place, and a charcuterie bar.

Portland had the most restaurant debuts for that month, but South Portland, Scarborough, Topsham, Ogunquit, and Rockport also welcomed new spots.

Maine Restaurants That Opened in August 2026

I've been looking forward to Knead & Nosh opening its brick-and-mortar location since the news was announced in March that it was headed to Topsham.

Being able to get some New York-style bagels, among its sandwich options, sounded like pure deliciousness. Plus, the business has some accolades to bolster its status: it was named Maine's best bagel in 2025.

There's just something about New York (and New Jersey!) bagels that elevates the bagel experience. And now Knead & Nosh is open!

Meanwhile, in South Portland, Himalayas on the Bay debuted and is just another prime example of the variety of types of foods you can get in Maine.

According to the Portland Press Herald, this new eatery comes from the owner of Hi Bombay in Portland and plans to serve up "Nepalese, Tibetan, and Indian food in general."

Some of the early reviews on Google call the food "delicious," "tasty," and exceptional," while another person raved: "Amazing food, the servers are the nicest people. This is going to be a staple for me."
