The Taste of Maine Restaurant Hit With Two Dine and Dashes Just Days Apart
The Taste of Maine Restaurant has been a landmark in Maine since it opened in 1978. They have been family-run ever since, and this family does not deserve to be treated like this.
The Taste of Maine is located on Route 1 in Woolwich, just across the bridge from Bath. If you grew up in Maine, you'd know them from the commercials they ran for years. The ads featured an animated version of their sign, where the fisherman comes to life and says, "The Taste of Maine Restaurant. Route One in Woolwich, just north of Bahhhhhth." It's done in a Maine accent by legendary Maine broadcaster and writer John McDonald, who sadly passed away in 2022.
It's hard to believe it, but the Taste of Maine Restaurant had not one, but two dine and dash incidents just two days apart. In case you don't know the term, a dine and dash is when a customer orders their food, eats it, then ducks out without paying. Back before the days when cameras were everywhere, people could get away with dining and dashing a lot easier. I'd like to think that dine-and-dashes weren't a common occurrence back then.
The first dine-and-dash occurred on August 2, when a man ordered a wedge salad and a lobster roll with coleslaw, then left without paying the bill. Could it have been overlooked? He was caught on camera, and the Taste of Maine says that after watching the footage, it seemed like a calculated move.
Then, just two days later, another man was caught on camera doing a dine and dash, and they have footage of him in the restaurant and getting into his car.
Of course, all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty, but if the footage shows the evidence, they'll receive charges on top of paying their bill.
