For years Mainers took care of the snow the old fashioned way, with shovels and man power. But that took way too long. They needed a way to clear the snow faster and more efficiently.
Union Iron Works in Bangor began a snow plow company in 1827 called Sargent Snow Plows after the owner, Donald Sargent. The company sold these plows all over New England and even as far west as South Dakota.
