The First of a Chain of Cheesy Skillet Restaurants to Open at Auburn-Lewiston Airport
You had me at cheesy.
Dan Caron, who is the now-retired chef from The Green Ladle in Lewiston, has a new brilliant idea - The Cheesy Skillet. It's exactly what it sounds like - cheese forward dishes. Oh sure, you could open up a box of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, but if you go to the Cheesy Skillet you can get gourmet mac and cheese. What makes it gourmet? First, you need Danny to make it and add braised short ribs, caramelized onions, Baxter beer pork belly, or sauteed Maine lobster.
The cool part is that he wants to open a chain of Cheesy Skillets throughout Maine with the first at the Auburn-Lewiston Airport at the end of April. Plus, what a view of planes taking off and landing. People LOVE to the point of obsession with watching planes take off and land! What better way to do it than with some cheesy deliciousness to munch on!
According to the Sun Journal, Chef Caron will run the new restaurant with his wife, Mickie, and son Dustin. Plus, what fun to bring the kids. They will have a kid's menu, with the obvious cheesy yummies, plus every kid gets a plane with their meal! Oh, the kids are gonna beg you to take them here!
Just because Chef Caron retired from The Green Ladle after 25 years, he still supports the students. He will buy their food or hire them directly as chefs and cooks! One of his former students, Megan Cullins, will be the chef for the first location. First location? Yes! Caron is banking on our obsession with cheese and hopes to open a chain of Cheesy Skillets throughout Maine! In the meantime, look for the first one to take off (get it?) at the end of April starting at first open 7 am to 2 pm and extending as the staff is trained and they get going a bit.
