New Giant Premium Indoor Pickleball Courts Finally Opening in Westbrook, Maine
The grand opening of the PICKLR, Westbrook's soon to be new indoor hot spot for pickleball, is finally ready to let us play this February.
It's felt like we've been watching the construction on these new courts for forever now, so it's really awesome to see on their website they're just about ready to open their doors.
Back on January 4, the PICKLR held an open house for future members to come check out the behind-the-scenes look at what's really going into these 'premium' courts.
What exactly is pickleball?
Poolesville defines it as: A sport a bit like tennis and played on a similar, yet significantly smaller, court for both singles and doubles play.
It is played with a perforated plastic wiffle-like ball and composite or wooden paddles about twice the size of ping-pong paddles.
Although it can be played as singles, it is usually played as doubles. It can be played both indoors and outdoors using a slightly modified tennis net.
Here's a cool inside look of the new courts:
The pickleball craze seems to have taken over Maine very quickly.
I've even started playing last year myself!
We'd use tennis courts on the prom or wherever we could find an empty parking lot so an official building with tons of proper courts in it is going to be a game changer for so many people.
