Put the kids in the truck either this Saturday or Sunday and head down to the stream to cast a line free of charge.

To celebrate Mother's Day, this weekend is a free fishing weekend across the State of Maine.  It's a weekend that was devised to get moms, their families, and kids interested in fishing, and no one needs a fishing license.

That's right, Game Wardens are fully aware of the free fishing weekends and no one without a license is going to get in trouble or be fined. Unless your license has already been suspended or revoked, or if you break any of the current Maine fishing laws, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Although, you do have to REGISTER by filling out a short survey with the State in order to fish free of charge this weekend. Anyone 15 years of age or younger should not fill out the survey.

If you're really into it, check out this month's Maine Fishing Report to get a head's up on everyone else as to where the fish are.

There are over 32,000 miles of rivers and streams in Maine and over 6,000 lakes and ponds, so there is plenty of room out there for everyone.  Of course it's up to you as to how to ward off the black flies.  Please remember to tell someone where you are going and when you will return, to wear a lifejacket when in the water and that the water is still very cold.

The next Free Fishing Weekend will be held here in Maine the weekend of June 5th and 6th.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
