Thousands of Clams Have Washed Up and Died on Old Orchard Beach
Happy as a clam? The phrase doesn't ring true at Old Orchard Beach right now. An alarming amount of clams have washed up on shore at Old Orchard Beach over the last few days causing an alarming sight for beachgoers. Many of the clams died on the beach, while others washed up already dead. The numbers are estimated in the thousands. That's a lot of fried clams!
According to WGME 13, officials from the Maine Department of Marine Resources are investigating the cause of the apparent clam mass exodus. Early conjecture points to high surf as the cause of their appearance on the beach. Samples of the clams have been taken to learn more about the cause of their death.
