New England is not a hot spot for rollercoasters, but it is home to several coasters that are some of the best in the world. Vermont and Rhode Island have no coasters, but all the other New England states do, and I've ridden many of them.

I've put together a list of what I believe to be the 10 best rollercoasters in New England. Your opinions might vary, but that's cool. Feel free to share your favorite coasters in New England.

Here's the list from 10 to 1, with a YouTube video of a seat point of view for each one, so you can see what it looks like and decide if you want to go for a ride.

10. Untamed - Canobie Lake Park - Salem, NH

Untamed is what's called a  Euro-Fighter rollercoaster which which reaches an angle greater that is greater than 90 degrees. You go up the lift at 90 but you drop 72 feet at a 97-degree angle. The big thrill is that drop that ends quickly, but that's about all it has for thrill in my opinion.

9. The Riddler Revenge - Six Flags New England - Agawam, MA

Originally opened in 1997 as Mind Eraser, The Riddler Revenge is a suspended looping coaster. Passengers sit in seats that are suspended and high enough that their feet don't touch the ground. It can be pretty intense when you do two 360-degree spins back to back.

8. Yankee Cannonball - Canobie Lake Park - Salem, NH

The Yankee Cannonball was built in 1930 and was moved to Canobie Lake Park in 1936 where it has remained ever since. It's a simple "out-and-back" ride, with a 63-foot drop and then lots of little hills that give you a bit of air time. The ride makes a 180 and heads back to where it started. The nostalgia of this coaster and it almost 100-year life is why this makes the list.

7. Roar-A-Saurus - Story Land - Glen, NH

The Roar-a-Saurus is the perfect ride for families. It's not too scary for kids and it's fast enough for adults to enjoy the ride with them. It's one of the best attractions that has been added to Story Land.

6. Sea Viper - Palace Playland - Old Orchard Beach, ME

The Sea Viper replaced the Galaxi rollercoaster in 2018, and it's a much better and more modern ride than its predecessor. It has a maximum height of 70 feet and speeds up to 44 miles per hour. It gets bonus points for being at the beach with an amazing view at the top.

5. Midnight Flyer - Santa’s Village - Jefferson, NH

The Midnight Flyer is a family-friendly roller coaster that opened in 2024 and it's designed to make riders feel like they are flying with reindeer, and delivering presents. It has a 41-foot drop and a maximum speed of 25 miles per hour and you get two rides! Lots of curves and a very smooth and exciting ride.

4. Wicked Cyclone - Six Flags New England - Agawam, MA

Wicked Cyclone was originally a wooden coaster called "Cyclone," but it was closed in 2014 and transformed into the "Wicked Cyclone," by converting the wooden track to steel. It reopened a year later with a 10-story drop, and a maximum speed of 55 mph and lots of airtime.

3. Excalibur - Funtown/Splashtown USA

Excalibur is the tallest and longest roller coaster in Northern New England. It has a height of 100 feet, a drop of 82 feet, and travels at speeds up to 55 mph over 2700 feet of track. The ride lasts just short of 2 minutes and its path zooms past trees on both sides.  This has been the greatest addition to Funtown/Splashtown hands down.

2. Boulder Dash - Lake Compounce - Bristol, CT

Like Funtown, Bolder Dash's tracks run through the woods, zooming past trees and boulders at speeds up to 60 mph after dropping 115 feet, making it unique among rollercoasters. It's that uniqueness that puts it high on the list.

1. Superman - The Ride - Six Flags New England

There is no other coaster in New England that can compare to Superman - The Ride. Check out these stats: A 208-foot lift hill, a 221-foot drop, and a maximum speed of 77 mph. And when you climb that 208-foot hill, John Williams' iconic Superman theme is playing. The speed, the tunnels, the turns. All of it comes together in an unmatched experience that makes you want to ride again.
