The longtime staple of dining and entertainment near the Maine Mall could be closing after more than 20 years in business.

It's hard to find any non-chain restaurants in the Maine Mall that have survived as long as Thatcher's has. Tucked away on Foden Road, it has been a destination for happy hour and weekend entertainment for almost two decades. But as times are changing, with more restaurant options opening up, and a burgeoning Old Port scene, Thatcher's is on the brink of closing.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Cynthia Boulay, the owner of Thatcher's in South Portland, is just plain exhausted. She's had a hard time in recent years finding quality employees and keeping up with advanced marketing through social media.  She now works 7 days per week and has simply run out of gas. Boulay has been a Maine restauranteur for nearly 30 years.

Thatcher's was once one of the busiest restaurants in South Portland. Happy hour specials and weekend entertainment used to fill the sprawling restaurant with enthusiastic patrons. If someone doesn't buy the restaurant from Boulay by April 26th, everything inside Thatcher's will be auctioned off. That includes major food equipment, televisions and other beer related paraphernalia.
