Justin Bieber owes a lot of his initial success to Usher, who partnered with Bieber's manager Scooter Braun in the early days of Bieber's career. Thus, it's no surprise that Usher sees himself as a bit of a mentor to the 20-year-old pop star, both through the good times and the bad.

In a new interview with Billboard, Usher admitted that a lot of Bieber's recent troubles -- including getting arrested for fights and getting caught with weed and alcohol -- has made the R&B superstar a little uneasy.

"Our relationship is more man-to-man now," he tells the magazine. "He's making his own decisions and it's important to show support. I can say I'm not happy with all the choices my friend has made, but I'm supportive of him. I try my hardest to give as much positive reinforcement as I can."

Usher also admitted that he plans on showing him some tough love. "I'll punch him in the f---ing chest when I need to, and give him a hug and kiss when I need to. It's more than just mentoring. I love the kid."
