Clearing snow from the streets and sidewalks in Maine wasn't always as easy as it is today. Men would have to don their cold weather gear and grab their shovels to clear paths after a big snow storm. That is until the Bangor based Union Iron Works opened a snow plow plant in 1827.
The plows were sold all throughout New England, and as far west as South Dakota for over 100 years..
