WATCH: The Woodpecker in This Hole is the Loudest Pecker I’ve Ever Heard

There's a hole in a tree on my campsite at Keoka Beach Campground that I thought had been empty for seasons. Apparently a woodpecker has moved in and is letting the world know he's home with his amazing loud pecking. 

We have seen this guy, but he moves fast and he's huge, so it's no wonder his pecking is so loud.

I Googled to find out what kind of woodpecker he is, and discovered that he's the largest woodpecker found in the US, the Pileated woodpecker. It's the woodpecker that the famous cartoon character Woody Woodpecker is based on.

I tried again and again to catch him on video coming out of his hole, but who really has that kind of patience? He's too busy pecking to pose for the camera.
