Bubba’s Sulky Lounge in Portland, Maine

The historic, iconic, and slightly creepy Bubba’s Sulky Lounge has been causing dancing fever in Portland since 1961. The two light-up dance floors and themed dance party nights bring folks of all ages to the local joint on Portland Street to tear it up on the weekends.

If you’re like me and love dancing, it is seriously the place to go. The dance floor lights up to the beat of disco music from the 70s and 80s and you never know what song will come up next. Whatever jam comes on, it will make you want to shake your booty.

The slightly creepy part of Bubba’s is the antiques scattered all over the place. It literally looks like an antique shop with antique dolls, pictures, lunch boxes, and knick-knacks everywhere. For some people, it’s one of their favorite parts about the spot but for me, it gives me the heebie-jeebies.

What Time Does Bubba’s Sulky Lounge Open?

So, who the hell would go to a disco-themed, light-up-dance-floor bar at 8 in the morning?

Me.

Not because it’s “5 o’clock somewhere” but because I love to dance and I listen to disco music in the morning anyway, so I may as well be on a dance floor movin’ and groovin’ to start the day.

Well, I tried to do this with my coworkers the other day and we had a plan to meet on the dance floor during our lunch break but to our dismay, we found the doors to be locked shut.

Google says loud and proud that the dancing joint is open every single day at 8 a.m.

But apparently, they’re only open at night on the weekends.

I knew something was fishy about those hours on Google… Other than me and maybe a handful of other weirdos, who would go to Bubba’s at 8 in the morning?

Well, we’ll never find out, because those hours are unfortunately not accurate. If they were, you know where I would be bright and early every day of the week.

I actually fell in love at Bubba’s but that’s a whole other story.
