Why Is Everyone Running Red Lights in Portland? Up In Bangor They’re Doing Something About It

Please bear with me while I have a little rant here. I really don't know what is wrong with people. Three times over my holiday vacation I was almost t-boned by an idiot driver running a red light, and each time it was at the same intersection!

If you are on Franklin Arterial in Portland waiting at an intersection and the light turns green, you better keep your eyes peeled for the moron coming the other way who thinks that red lights really mean hit the gas and hope the hell you make it!

It's happened to me at several intersections in Portland recently, but none seems to be worse than where Franklin Arterial meets Somerset and Fox near Whole Foods Market. In particular it seems to be those turning right from Somerset onto Franklin that are the worst offenders.

So what can be done about this? I think the Portland Police should do what they're doing up in Bangor. This post on the Bangor Police Department's Facebook page outlines their plan to deal with these Darwin Award winners.
