Woah! At Night the Hannaford at Back Cove in Portland, Maine, Looks Wicked Purple
I guess I hadn't been to the Back Cove Hannaford in the dark in a while and it totally took me by surprise!
I instantly thought that I had entered some sort of crazy black light dance club! It was purple! Kinda purple-blue!
You can see that some of the bulbs have been replaced with obvious LED bulbs. But what's up with the super purple color?
That's not a special filter on a phone or anything. It's a crappy iPhone 8 for God's sake and it truly is that purple when you drive into the Hannaford off Forest Avenue in Portland across from Back Cove. When did this happen? I honest to God damn near crashed driving in because I was so distracted!
Why are the lights so purple?
While trying to find out why these lights are purple, all I could find was some type of 'manufacturing defect'. Apparently, this purple light is happening on streets across the country.
Limitless Production Group did an article trying to find out why the street lights in Wisconsin are so purple,
According to the Saint Paul Public Works Department, and several other public works departments across the country, the purple-colored lights are due to a manufacturer’s defect and failure with the Autobahn series LED “cobra style” street lights from the company American Electric Lighting (AEL) that were installed across the country between 2017 and 2019. In a blog article by Sam Finn on the site Night Sky Santa Fe, about six months ago over a dozen cities all across the country were reporting these issues with most of these issues occurring about 1-2 years after their installation.
I have no clue what's happening and I'm not sure I like it. I kinda do and I kinda don't. Is any other place lit up like an 80s nightclub?
