The recent explosion of condos in Portland continues as plans are underway to begin construction of "Hobson's Landing" on the former Rufus Deering Lumber location on Commercial Street.

The lumber yard sold the land that it had operated from for 162 years to developers from Massachusetts and New York. It had been valued at over $2 million and the developers have now released the plans for their high-end condos that will be built on the site.

The development will be called Hobson's Landing and will have 1 to 3 bedroom condos and an impressive set of amenities such as electric vehicle charging stations, a state-of-the art fitness center, courtyard with garden, grill, tables & benches, a community-shared car and bikes. Even a dog washing station.

There's no word yet on when construction will begin, but a sign with the artists rendering has been put up on the chain link fence with the remnants of the lumber yard behind it.

Worth noting is that the on street parking in front of this site is currently one of the few places in Portland that have free parking. It's likely that those spaces will get meters as happened when the Courtyard Marriot was built next door.

It raises the question, are too many high-end condos being built in Portland? The working waterfront is quickly being crowded by more and more expensive housing as are many other parts of the city. Let us know what you think in the comments below or on our Facebook page.
