My Mom and My Best Friend Were Pen Pals

It's been 4 years since my mom passed. I still get emotional thinking about her. My friend gave me some letters she had written to her...they were pen pals!

My mom's handwriting was elegant. Cursive (of course) and so pretty it was almost hard to read. Sandy (who I have been friends with for over 25 years) recently found a couple letters my mom had written to her. She let me keep them.

It took me a few days before I got up the courage to read them. I am so glad I did. I love them. I feel like I was given a gift. I wanted to share with you one of the letters dated 12/8/12.  She passed 7/27/14...

Dear Sandy:

How I enjoyed your (?) note!

Your Mom moved - is this going to a problem for you? Oh, Honey I hope not! But, I can see her point too!

Yes I have lost 40 lbs! But, let's face it - at 5"1' I sure as hell didn't need to be 156 lbs. So now I'm skinny - but it honestly doesn't feel bad at all - except I'm always cold Ha!

Lori is the delight of our lives! Honestly I don't know how she does it - job, kids, new house, etc. But she carries on like 'Hey - I can handle this!' She is also so involved in our lives (thank God)!!  Yes, you're right, she is a very, very special person and (of course) we adore her.

Sandy, thank you again for the letter - it meant so much to me. You are a wonderful friend to Lori and to me.

Happy Holidays Sweetie - I know you will shed those 10 lbs. and if you don't - so what!! Just enjoy!
