4 Things That Can Save Your Life in a House Fire
Sadly, fires kill more Americans every year than all natural disasters combined. On average 7 people die every day from a house fire, 36 are injured and they cause 7 billion in property damage - every year.
The Red Cross has 4 things you can do right now to save your life:
- Check Your Smoke Detectors: A working smoke detector reduces your chances of dying in a fire by nearly half. Smoke detectors have an average of a 10 year life.
- Have an Escape Plan: You only have 2 minutes to escape a burning house. An escape plan can save you valuable time.
- Prevent a Fire in Your Home: You may have several hazards that you are unaware of. Check the Fire Safety List.
- Get Your Kids Involved: If your child's school doesn't have a fire prevention, contact your local Red Cross chapter.
