It's tourist season in Maine and there are plenty of them roaming the streets of Portland. Whether they arrive by cruise ship, bus tour, or drive themselves, all of them have some pretty interesting things to say once they're here. Here are 5 things I actually overheard tourists saying as I take my daily walk down Commercial Street.

1. "This kind of reminds me of Boston."

If you mean it's a city in the Northeast on the ocean, okay. The similarities end there though. Portland's a small city with a Back Cove not a Back Bay and we don't love dirty water here.

2. "How does this f---ing thing work! I just want to pay of my parking!"

Welcome to Portland, where suddenly every parking lot and space has one of these ATM like parking meters with an entire alphabet full of keys. It took us years to figure out how ATM's work with a lot less buttons. How DO these things work?

3. "Let's find the Paul Bunyan statue"

No. That's in Bangor, or as you'll likely pronounce it...Banger.

Side note: I got this photo of the Paul Bunyan statue from Google Street View. You can tell because they took the time to blur his face. You know. To protect Paul's anonymity.

4. "Can you tell me where Commercial Street is?"

Yes sir I can. You're standing on it.

5. How do we get to L.L. Bean?
