A Library That Rents Out Snowshoes and Cross Country Skis, How Maine Is That?!

According to News Center Maine, fans of the outdoors can take advantage of a special program at Millinocket Memorial Library. Anyone with a M.M.L. library card can rent snowshoes and cross country ski gear at the Katahdin Gear Library. Keep that in Mind during February vacation week with the kids!

Outdoor Sports Institute is a non-profit whose goal is to strengthen communities through outdoor activities, they donated the equipment for the program. The cost of buying snowshoes and cross country ski gear is often too expensive and some people don't want to make the financial investment before deciding if it's really something they want to pursue on the regular.

Rental info:

• Equipment rental is for 1 week, but can be renewed.
• Rentals are available for free to library card holders 18 and older. If under 18, written consent from a parent or guardian is required.
• Guides and videos are available for those interested in cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

The library also offers ice skate rentals and in the warmer weather they rent out mountain bikes and other summer gear.
